sometimes there comes a need for the community to come together to keep bears away from the community.  Here we have Elders Joseph Swan Sr. in the white boat and Elder Ronald (Jerry) Norton assisting him in dragging out a whale that had beached itself inside the island lagoon when the water rose high enough for it.  That is a threat to the community members, the decay from the whale can get pretty toxic, which is what attracts the bears.
